2.1 Installing and running AgenaRisk for the first time

2.1.1 Free and Lite Version

  1.  In most versions of Windows you will need to be logged in as administrator (or alternatively you can right click on the executable file name and select 'run as administrator').
  2. Select the AgenaRisk installation file (file extension .exe) you downloaded from the Agena website and double click it. Depending on your Windows security setup you may be prompted to confirm you wish to continue. For example, in recent versions of Windows you may get a message saying "Windows protected your PC from installing an unknown application" - in this case you should click the "More information" option and then confirm you wish to install AgenaRisk.
  3. The installation wizard will take you through the installation steps.
  4. By default the installer will install AgenaRisk to your "Program Files" or "Program Files x86"  directory.  Example files and the User Manual  will be installed in your Home directory (if the administrator user is different from the normal user then please see the instructions here to ensure that AgenaRisk can access these files).
  5.  In order to start AgenaRisk, double-click the AgenaRisk icon in the directory where you installed it or, if you created a start-up group during installation, use that.

Note that Windows installs its own Java JRE on your machine as an integral part of AgenaRisk. It does not interfere with any JREs you may have pre-installed.

2.1.2 Professional Version

  1. Before you install AgenaRisk Professional you need a license file and a key.  Once your order for AgenaRisk professional is confirmed you will receive these by email. The licence file (which has an extension .llf) is an attachment to the email message, and the key is a string like "JMTXB-URQGP-QLFWR-WHGRM" that will be stated in the body of the email message. The email message will also give you the link to download the latest version of AgenaRisk Pro.
  2. In most versions of Windows you will need to be logged in as administrator (or alternatively you can right click on the executable file name and select 'run as administrator'). Depending on your Windows security setup you may be prompted ro confirm you wish to continue. For example, in Windows 8 you may get a message saying "Windows protected your PC from installing an unknown application" - in this case you should click the "More information" option and then confirm you wish to install AgenaRisk.
  3. Select the AgenaRisk installation file (file extension .exe) you downloaded from the Agena website and double click it.
  4. The installation wizard will take you through the installation steps.

5. Renewing a license for AgenaRisk Professional

If you are renewing the license for AgenaRIsk Professional then you will be sent a new email with the new license file and key. As it is likely that a newer version of AgenaRisk than the one you previously installed will be available, it is strongly recommended that you download the new version from the link provided in the email and follow the instructions (provided elsewhere in this guide relevant for your operating syestem) for first uninstalling the version you already have and then installing the new version. It is crucial that you follow all steps of the uninstall procedure including the step to manually delete the old AgenaRisk installation folder.

If you definitely already have the latest version installed then the following 'shortcut' procedure for installing the new license can be used:

  1. Locate the AgenaRisk installation folder (this is the folder that contains the executable file AgenaRisk file).
  2. Delete the expired licence file - this is the file with extention ".ull"
  3. Copy your new .llf license file to this folder
  4. Follow the instructions for unlocking the new license file (provided elsewhere in this guide relevant for your operating syestem under the heading "Installing AgenaRisk Professional).

Please contact support@agenarisk.com us if you have any problems.
